Prior to thinking about getting my hands on a proper set of wooden desk plans, like any halfway normal person would usually start with, I attempted to build one to use in my office based solely on a copycat approach to another desk I had seen pictures of online. I figured I could make a fairly descent approximation of said desk because, after all, how hard could it be? I had some woodworking experience under my belt already and it looked like a simple enough design to replicate. I should also mention that I can be a bit of a stubborn knuckle head about doing it “my way” when it comes to these kinds of projects.

You can probably guess where I’m going with this story, Yup…disaster! As my wife will readily attest, the project basically turned into a month long exercise in frustration and frequent “mood swings”! The moral of the story: When trying to make something with lots of individual parts…NEVER rely on experience alone, even the greatest carpenter of all time needs a good set of plans. It’s a lesson I will never forget.

So after wasting a ton of time, energy and materials (not to mention my wife’s patience), I decided to wise up and do what would occur to most sane individuals to begin with, namely, search for a set of desk woodworking plans that would fit my needs both practically and aesthetically. Fortunately a good friend of mine recommended several different resources to check out, which helped me to eventually settle on a wooden desk plan that I knew, even with my modest skills, I could construct in a fairly short period of time.
